I recently attempted setting up a mailing list in order to keep subscribers informed of new products and general updates, but I ended up finding it a lot of unnecessary hassle, so I thought a blog would be a good way to move forward! Also, it allows everyone to see my gradual progress, and scroll back to see older posts if they wanted to.
This first post might be a bit of a ramble as I’m going to attempt to summarise my illustration journey so far, I’m also pretty dyslexic, so bear with me lol…
In the last few months, I finished my final year of BA Illustration from Arts University Bournemouth with a First-Class Honours, moved to Bristol and started my first in-house illustrator role at Kionii. I also achieved awards and short-listed positions within some major competitions, including The World Illustration Awards, Creative Conscience, Arts Thread, Secret 7’s, and Light Grey Arts Lab! It has been an incredibly busy and exciting time, even amidst a global pandemic.
I adore my team at Kionii and working for this black-owned business for just a few months has already expanded my practice, challenged my creative juices and taught me all the additional elements that go towards the marketing and design side of business. The role is part-time, which I also love, as it allows me to continue to still work on the freelance side of things, which news about will hopefully soon be flooding in this blog.
Although challenging to balance the two, I love it as I’m able to diversify the avenues in which my illustration work can bring me across. Currently I’m looking to land more editorial commissions as well as build upon my online shop, so watch this space! My most recent editorial commission is possibly one of my favourite projects so far as it revolves around such an important topic and I was given so much creative freedom with the brief, click here to see my illustrations in action on the China Dialogue Oceans website. Another of my favourite projects, ‘Urban Eden’ is also now available as prints on my shop!
