Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story

After recently watching the National Geographic documentary Billy & Molly : An Otter Love Story, a breathtakingly beautiful documentary, brimming with wonder, curiosity and joy, exploring a unique relationship set in the remote Shetland Islands, I was super inspired, so I just had to create an illustration capturing my favourite moment from the film where Molly, the otter, swims and plays in a tub full of rainbow coloured ball pit balls!

This illustration was not commissioned, but tied in perfectly with a gift opportunity for a talented friend who did some of the sound design on the film and just had a rainbow baby, coincidently also named Molly! That being said, working for clients such as National Geographic on animal, nature, or human geography, documentary topics would be an absolute dream!

Toward Health Business Card Design

Over the past few months, I’ve silently been working away on a business card design for south Bristol based holistic health service, Toward Health, and I’m really please to say the final design has officially gone off for printing! I’m yet to see the cards in print, but a mockup design will do for now!

Normally I’d run away at the initial request of a business card design, as I hate logos and typography, however thankfully this client already had their brand visuals established and just wanted a vibrant and eye-catching background design for their business cards that tied everything together, and I was very happy to help, particularly as it was birds and botanics focused!

Today Was A Good Day

After what feels like absolutely ages of working on this image, it still doesn’t quite feel finished… but if I keep staring at it and questioning what it needs, I’ll never move onto the next. So once again, I’ve had to remind myself it’s all part of a bigger picture.

I’m still not 100% sure what the end goal is with the travel illustrations I’m creating from my Australia and Bali trip. I’m toying with the idea of a picture book that navigates the story chronically, or more simply a scattered collection that navigates a narrative more randomly. Some illustrations from the collection will make it in to purchasable prints, and some are just for my own enjoyment.

When creating this illustration, I had in mind a print that would go quite nicely alongside Lazy River, and I can confidently say it doesn’t quite work in that context, but more prints was never the goal of this project. The goal was to draw on observation and create a narrative, and thankfully, I feel, it does that.

This illustration, finished or not, is titled Today Was a Good Day, (thanks to Tom’s Route One tee). It captures the tropical winding roads in Ubud Bali, via one of my favourite modes of super safe transport, moped!

Custom Family Portrait Commission

I recently completed another personal commission, illustrating a portrait of 4 family members. It was definitely a challenge as there was a fairly tight timeframe to complete it within, but I’m reallyt happy with the final outcome!

Despite the speedy turnaround, this request came at good timing, as it forced me to focus on tying up some loose ends before I engage with other work and commitments during the summer months. It’s unlikely I’ll be able to take on any commissions throughout June, but I’m hoping to squeeze in some time to continue working on my traveling series, and prepping for my re-introduction to markets at the start of September.
