InvestIN Education

I’m a bit late getting round to this blog post, but never the less wanted to recognise it, as its something I’d like to get involved in again, or similar in future!

Towards the end of January I took part in a weekend event with InvestIN Education as a university graduate assistant, to assist with guiding young people, aged 16-19, with how to potentially navigate an education in creative subjects. The event had a few different University Graduates like myself from different specialties, and also a few speakers who are more established within their creative careers, that were leading talks throughout the day. Our role was to assistant students in small Zoom break-out rooms with creative activities, and help them navigate the software that came with these activities. This included drawing challenges, small critiques and directing and hosting their own virtual exhibition! This was done using the programmes Mural and Kunstmatrix.

It’s the first time I’ve engaged in an event like this along with the hosting responsibility, and I actually really enjoyed it! I think because it was focused in a genuine area of interest, I was able to engage with it almost effortlessly. Additionally, I felt I could easily relate it to activities as I had taken part in similar ones as student myself not too long ago, so I was able to guide the students through it with some experience and knowledge.

In future I’d hope to get involved with similar projects and hopefully lead some talks and workshops myself, talking about my own practice! My university had a guest lecture most Fridays and I often really enjoyed them a felt they introduced me to the real world of illustration before I fully stepped into it myself.
